It’s that time of year again… Time for the committee elections!

If you’re interested in being part of the committee for the biggest (and best) sports club at UEA, please take a look at the role descriptions below. We encourage everyone to apply – being on committee is great fun and extremely rewarding. You can nominate yourself here.

The elections will take the form of speeches, with each candidate having three minutes to tell the rest of the membership why they would be best for the role. The elections will be held on the 19th of April, so you have plenty of time to prepare.

You must hold membership of the club in order to stand, and be at UEA for the 2016/17 academic year. You can nominate yourself for up to two positions if you wish. You may also campaign in our members group (think pictures, videos etc! – scroll back through to last year to see what people did then), but please wait until you receive an email from us before you start.

President

You’re the face of the club, the el supremo. You not only need to live and breath snowsports but you need to be organised and passionate. The role includes a lot of planning and organisation, both within the club and between the club and the students’ union. It’s up to you to make sure the club runs smoothly, and to keep the rest of the committee in line!

The Role:
– Represent and be responsible for everything UEA Snow.
– Help organise and plan meetings, events, trips etc – anything that UEA Snow does.
– Delegate tasks to each member of the committee and make sure things are done.

Requirements:
– You must be organised and have enough time to devote to the club each week.
– You must have held a position on the committee previously.
– You must put the club first, always.

Vice President

You’ll be the president’s right hand man/woman. Take minutes at meetings and just generally be there for other members if they need an extra hand. Working mainly with the President and the treasurer. You’ll also be in charge of the club’s emails and social media, so some good writing & communication skills will help!

The Role:
– Organise meetings, create agendas and write minutes.
– Maintain the clubs social media channels, as well as reply to and send out emails.
– Contact sponsors and get our members great deals.
– Pick up any tasks that others need help with.

Requirements:
– Must be organised!!!
– Able to write some good and engaging social media posts & emails.
– Good at communication.
– Understanding of Facebook’s advertising & pages useful.

Treasurer

Money money money! Organise and sort out all sorts of membership and SAMs! You’re also in charge of the club account, keep an eye on it, keep in contact with the rest of the committee, and let them know what’s occurring!

The Role:
– Create budgets and ledger reports.
– Control all incoming and outgoing costs for the club.
– Ensure members have purchased UEA Snow membership and SAM and chase up those who haven’t.

Requirements:
– Some economics/financial skills would be useful!
– Easily contactable by anyone on committee.
– Organised and able to be on top of finances.

Trip Secretary

This role is probable the most important on committee! Our winter and easter trips are your responsibility. Be organised, be prepared and be passionate! You’ll be getting in touch with trip companies right from the get go and all throughout the year. When you’re partying at 3000m with 300 other UEA students you can be proud!

The Role:
– Plan, organise and sell both our winter and easter trips.
– Be in constant contact with our trip companies (the emails will never stop!).
– Keep the rest of the committee in the loop.
– Work with the Promotions Secretary and Vice President to create engaging advertising campaigns.
– Organise SnowDome trips.

Requirements:
– Organised and motivated to create the best trip UEA has ever seen.
– Time each week/day to devote to the trips and contacting trip companies.
– The club comes first – you’ll need to be completely unbiased when interviewing and deciding trip companies.

Promotions Secretary

It is your job to make UEA Snow look good! You have to design the hell out of everything; social media, website, advertising for socials, trip promotions, t-shirts, banners etc. You need to know how to make things look real professional i.e. don’t use paint! You’ll be working to strict deadlines over the summer and throughout the year as well as being in touch with the trip companies and ordering from suppliers.

The Role:
– Design promotional material throughout the year for trips, events and more.
– Maintain and write content for the website.
– Work with the Vice President to ensure our social media is being properly utilised.
– Edit trip videos.
– Organise and plan promotional campaigns for freshers fair and throughout the year.

Requirements:
– Experience with photoshop/illustrator essential.
– Video editing & web development experience preferred.
– Know how to make things look great.

Membership Rep

A new position this year, your responsibilities will primarily be based around boosting membership, and bringing in members from groups that have been traditionally hard to reach for us, such as postgrads and alumni. You will have to connect with everyone and be a people person!

The Role:
– Create effective plans to target hard to reach groups (postgrads, medics, alumni, freshers & NUA students) to encourage them to join the club and attend our trip.
– Work closely with the Promotions Secretary & Social Secretaries to create engaging marketing and social events.
– Maintain an alumni group on Facebook.
– Contact representatives from the above groups.

Requirements:
– 3rd or 4th year preferred but not required.
– Be creative and innovative in your ideas.
– Understand various groups’ requirements and wants and tailor your strategies accordingly.

Social Secretary

YOU MUST LOVE TO PARTY! Organising socials for our giant club – we don’t just do normal ‘pre drinks then club’ socials, we do big and fun and slightly bizarre socials. Get us some good deals in clubs, have some cracking ideas for nights out and we’re sorted!

The Role:
– Make sure everyone is having fun!
– Plan and organise at least three socials a semester.
– Plan fancy dress themes and any social events on trips.
– Speak to bars and clubs in Norwich to get the best deals.

Requirements:
– You must be sociable and able to get people stoked for our socials!
– Be organised and used to planning socials at least three weeks in advance.
– Attend all the socials (and don’t get too drunk).

Ski Captain

You must love skiing lots and lots! You need to be passionate about the sport so when a Fresher has a shit first lesson you can give them a pep talk and it will all be alright again. You’re main duties are organising trips to the dryslope for lessons, open practice and race training. You will also work alongside the Snowboard captain to organise competitions throughout the year. You don’t have to be a good skier!

The Role:
– Take people to the dryslope sessions and lessons.
– Run the ski team and help to coach them.
– Organise our two competitions – BUDS & BUiSC with the snowboard captain.
– Be our liaison with the dryslope.

Requirements:
– Able to attend dryslope sessions on every Friday evening and lessons on a few Wednesday afternoons each semester.
– Organisational skills to plan our competitions and Ski Team.

Snowboard Captain

Snowboarding is your life! You need to be passionate about the sport so when a Fresher has a shit first lesson you can give them a pep talk and it will all be alright again. You’re main duties are organising trips to the dryslope for lessons, open practice and race training. You will also work alongside the Ski captain to organise competitions throughout the year. You don’t have to be a good snowboarder!

The Role:
– Take people to the dryslope sessions and lessons.
– Run the board team and help to coach them.
– Organise our two competitions – BUDS & BUiSC with the ski captain.
– Be our liaison with the dryslope.

Requirements:
– Able to attend dryslope sessions on every Monday evening and lessons on a few Wednesday afternoons each semester.
– Organisational skills to plan our competitions and Snowboard Team.
